The audience expected Courtney Cox’s career to sky-rocket after the most-watched sitcom, FRIENDS, went off the air. But Cox failed to meet the expectations and what led to her failure despite her stardom raised many questions. The most common among them was:

  • Did Hollywood ban Courtney Cox?
  • Why is Hollywood not casting Courtney Cox?
  • Did Courtney Cox’s career end with FRIENDS?

All of these questions were asked by various sections of people following her failed attempts to make a grand comeback after her pregnancy. With a pregnancy break, losing some huge projects stating personal reasons or for some other unwise decisions, Courtney failed to maintain her fame.

Did Cox turn down a lead-role offer?

Yes, Cox got a lead role in a huge project, Desperate Housewives, post-FRIENDS, but stating personal reasons she politely rejected the offer in 2004. She had no other option but to reject the offer considering her pregnancy in 2004, which was her much desired and much-awaited moment in life. She was considered for the role, Susan Meyer, according to Rolling Stone. While she was on top of the list of producer Marc Cherry, she just passed the part which ultimately went to Teri Hatcher.

A Big Failure!

Cox failed to maintain her stardom, unlike her other co-stars who did it pretty well. After rejecting her first major offer post-FRIENDS, her next comedy film Zoom turned out to be a huge disappointment making only $12.5 million against its $75million budget.

A Big New Venture!

While her co-stars were featuring on TV and film, Cox turned to the creative field by focusing on behind screen works. In 2004, along with her husband, Cox started a production company, Coquette Productions. Several shows and movies were produced from this banner including Cougar Town, her biggest hit after FRIENDS.

Did “Dirt” turn out to be dirty?

Dirt helped her make a huge comeback after a long wait in 2007. But with the dwindling ratings coupled with the writer’s strike in 2008 in the USA, the show has not been received well and the ratings steadily plummeted. The series has been canceled in the 2008 mid-second series after the production was halted.

Why did Cougar Town fail?

After her ill-fated end of DirtCox’s focus shifted to Cougar Town. Termed as her biggest post-FRIENDS success, Cougar Town helped her make a name in the direction field. But the same was not always the case; the comedy series struggled a lot to find its place on the screen. Difficult time slots, dwindling ratings, critical reviews, and the cancellation rumors made it premiere for only six seasons.

First big debut for the big screen

Cougar Town’s failure didn’t hurt her spirit. She further shifted her energy towards off-camera works. Her first directorial debutJust Before I Go in 2014 was slammed by critics. She has directed a few episodes in Cougar Town but her transition to film direction didn’t prove her skill. But she didn’t let her guard down. She shut her critics saying that she was creatively fulfilled and the commercial success didn’t concern her that much.

What about the changed appearance?

She faced a lot of backlash in 2016. Following the negativity, Cox explained the reason behind her artificial looks. She openly admitted that she had to succumb to the pressure of looking good and underwent Botox, and other cosmetic surgeries. She also admitted that she regret the decision and learned to live with it. It’s something you can’t keep up with she said on Running Wild with Bear Grylls.

Allegations from ex-husband!

David Arquette, Courtney’s ex-husband alleged that she had an affair with Brian Van Holt, her co-star from Cougar Town. However, Cox later cleared the air around the rumors and clarified that David is a good friend of hers and she doesn’t care about the comments he made earlier.
