The secret about Tom Selleck’s gender identity

The world has advanced, we are in twenty first century yet some sections of people are being excluded from the society. Social exclusion, unacceptability, and bullying are the major reasons of the vulnerability of gay community. And the bullying only increases for celebrities because they are the easy targets for the bullies. May be that is one of the reasons for celebrities to not reveal their gender identity. The audiences are always on the active side to create fake narratives to bully the famous personalities. One such personality to bear the brunt of the adverse comments regarding his sexuality is Tom Selleck.

Some names don’t need an introduction. Tom belongs to that category in Hollywood. He was one of the most famous actors around the 1980s. People know him from the most famous sitcom FRIENDS and it is not the only one he has starred in. He still has the tag of the star actor.

His stardom had not saved him from being bullied and dragged into fake narratives. However, what makes the story twisted is his response to all those who have created news regarding his sexuality. Neither did he state nor were there any shreds of evidence about him being homosexual or a homophobe. Yet he has been accused of being a homosexual.

Tom has been married twice. And throughout his career, Tom has never made any statements that he is gay. The rumors have first begun in the 1980s and intensified by the 1990s with news getting printed in newspapers. Vexed with the encroachment of his personal space by the media and the civil society, Tom has filed a lawsuit against the papers that are responsible for the intensification of the news concerning him.

However, the issue was settled out of the court with an undisclosed sum.

So, why is this issue in news again now? You might ask. To learn about the latest developments in Tom Selleck’s life continue reading the article below.

Tom is currently married to Jillie Mack and both of them are in a happy relationship ever since their marriage in 1987. He was initially married to Jacqueline Ray, who was a model. Tom and Jillie have a daughter named Hannah. Besides Hannah, Tom has adopted Ray’s son, Kevin.

There are peak years in any celebrity’s life. And for Tom, it is the 1980s. His career reached its zenith with his role, Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I. He is currently enjoying resurgence in his career with the show Blue Bloods in which he is known to have enacted the role Frank Reagan.

The new success might be one of the reasons for the resurging of the news.

There is no obvious basis for rumors surrounding his sexuality and personal life. It comes as no surprise if I tell you that people still have reservations regarding the sexuality of this famous FRIENDS actor. However, speculations are that his macho mustache might have ignited the rage among the audiences.

The Globe has repeatedly made allusions about the actor’s sexuality in the 1980s and early 1990s. The situation reached has become adverse after Tom’s photos were used on placards of gay rights campaign in the early 1990s. However, Tom was not the only celebrity to be portrayed as gay on the placards. Below his photo was written the words “absolutely queer.”

Although Tom has sued the Globe for the bitter consequences he had to face because of the news published by it, it was not responsible for the incident claims the Globe. The incident was the work of Outpost that was a group of gay activists. The Globe has just reported the incident which eventually led to the legal battle between Tom and the Globe.

Tom originally intended to sue the members of the group, Outpost, who framed him into the issue. But the anonymity of the members has made the process complex for him.

The newspaper has published the news of the campaign where several people can be seen holding placards with photos of several celebrities on them including Tom Selleck with the headline “Gay stars stop traffic.”

Tom has repeatedly argued that the Globe had deliberately published the news to tarnish his image and damage his professional and personal reputation. The Globe’s stand was however in contradiction to the accusations of Tom. The Globe has maintained that they were merely reporting a factual story.

The lawsuit was finally settled out of court with the Globe paying $20million to Tom Selleck. In addition to the compensation, the publication was forced to clarify regarding the news that has been published in its newspaper editions. The Globe has eventually clarified to the readers that the firm had neither intended to sell the narrative to the readers nor did it frame him into the accusations.

After all the turn of events, rather than being believed as homosexual, Tom was called an anti-gay. This accusation was again clarified after his role as gay news reporter in “In & Out,” a 1997 movie.

Tom himself has admitted playing a gay’s role in this 1997 film has mostly cleared the air around both his sexuality and his stance on the gay community.
